Hongqi’s 1400hp ultra-luxury hyper car makes its debut in Shanghai

Hongqi’s super-luxury hypercar makes its global debut at Shanghai Auto Show 2021. Designed by the famous Walter De Silva, the car is the product of the recent collaboration between Chinese auto giant FAW and an Italian design and engineering company by the name of Silk EV.

The ongoing transformation of Hongqi towards establishing itself as one of the most prominent luxury offerings marks a milestone of luxury and performance with its S9 hypercar. Previously, the car was seen as a concept car at the 2019 Frankfurt International Motor Show.

The goal behind the Silk-FAW partnership is to shape the future of automaker design concept with top of the line high-performance offerings. The Hongqi S9 is a product of their new S series. Talking of the design engineer Walter de Silva, he’s the former chief engineer behind the design of cars like the original Audi A5 and R8, as well as 2006's stunning Lamborghini Miura Concept.

Design-wise, the Hongqi car look completely different from what we had seen in the images from the concept car. The design of the car is completely revamped and highlights the design feature of a stretched bubble canopy. Besides the bubble canopy feature of the car, everything seems to have been refreshed completely.

The car now adapts to a long tail that is paired to an adaptive rear spoiler, air extraction ports to boost the performance of the beast. All in all, the vehicle looks more like an alien design with its LED tail lights, carbon-fibre air intakes that is integrated into the headlights, besides some added space in the frame underneath.

Termed as the “Red Flag” in English, the plug-in hybrid hypercar might be getting an electrified 4.0L V8 engine. The charts are said to give out an impressive 1,400hp, paired to its all-wheel drive.
