Toyota GR Supra

The fact that the Toyota GR Supra shares a lot of underpinnings with the BMW Z4, which was co-developed with this car, is evident in the way the whole cabin has been laid out. The all-black layout tends to take the sportiness quotient to an all-new level.

The compact three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel feels good to hold, whereas the full TFT instrument console behind it makes the driver’s cockpit feel futuristic in general. The centre console boasts of a large pop-up style touchscreen infotainment system placed above the sleek looking AC vents, which themselves are placed above minimalist looking panel for the automatic climate control. There are contrasting red touches on the sides of the transmission tunnel in the middle, which brings in some kind of aggressiveness to the cabin.

The Toyota GR Supra has beautifully evolved in its modern avatar and has perfectly started off from where the previous generation Supra left. The design is full of modern and aggressive looking design bits, yet looks every bit a Supra.

At the front, the Toyota GR Supra has got a long and curvy front bonnet which ends up in the front fascia comprising of large and wide teardrop-shaped headlamps. These headlamps, which do house daytime running LEDs and main LED lamps, get sharp kinks at their lower inner edges and air vents on their lower outer edges. The front bumper looks aggressive with large air dams and sporty looking chin spoiler at the bottom.

The side profile of the Toyota GR Supra looks taut and sporty with the low stance, long swooping bonnet, and haunches above both the wheels. The large and sporty looking five-spoke alloy wheels and slim air vent sneaked within the back of the doors add to the sportiness of the car.

At the back, the Toyota GR Supra gets a long and rakish windscreen, which ends up in a curved and scooped out integrated spoiler on the boot lid. The tait design for the boot makes the GR Supra look muscular and the slim triangular all-LED tail lamps make it look even tastier.

The Toyota GR Supra combines its traditional prowess in ride and handling with the BMW Z4’s capabilities with which it shares its underpinnings. The double joint type Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link setup at the rear feel stiff and imply a stiff ride quality too, but this same setup gives tremendous handling capabilities to the GR Supra.

On offer in the Toyota GR Supra are two engine options, both of which are shared with the BMW Z4, but are tuned here differently. The smaller 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine makes 255 PS of maximum power output and 400 Nm of peak torque output, whereas the bigger 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine makes 335 PS of peak power output and 500 Nm of maximum torque output. Both the engines do get paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The Toyota GR Supra gets a host of safety options to make it feel complete, with a kit on board like eight airbags, Toyota safety sense package, blind-spot monitoring system, dynamic radar cruise control, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill start assist, ABS with EBD and brake assist, front, rear and corner parking sensors and reverse parking camera.

The Toyota GR Supra takes its iconic stature and legacy forward with this all-new model, which feels much more modern, aggressive, and feature-packed in every sense.
