Chevrolet Orlando Review

Abhishek Katariya says

Abhishek Katariya

Chevrolet introduced its first-ever 7-seater MUV into the Singapore market nearly a decade ago; the vehicle has received many updates since then, but the 2021 model of the family car is yet to hit the Singapore shores. Recently, General Motors introduced the 2021 Chevrolet Orlando Mild Hybrid in China. This hybrid variant is offered in two categories - five and seven-seat models, and it comes with an electric motor and 48-volt battery. The ongoing model of the Orlando in Singapore is a premium MPV with a distinctively bold design. Strikingly different, the Orlando 1.4T LS has a varied cockpit that offers premium quality features and fittings to ensure a luxurious environment, unlike the usual MPVs. It can comfortably accommodate seven adults, and with the seats down, you can transport lots of goods from one place to another. The decision to switch from the standard one-box design to the two-box MPV design is a strategic one, based on functionality, safety, and detailing. GM has incorporated a dual ISOFIX system on all models to use with ISOFIX child seats; many other modern safety features are also offered as standard. The Chevy Orlando is currently offered in a single variant, the 1.4T LS, and is available in a range of attractive colours. It competes with the Mitsubishi Xpander, and the Toyota Rush.

Chevrolet Orlando Interior & Features

The Orlando is a 7-seat MPV, but certainly gives the feeling of a luxury sedan. There are several ways in which you can configure the seating arrangement to accommodate more people or stuff. The high-grade leather upholstery, premium fittings, and touches once again remind you of the style and comfort quotient. The central console and dash are very similar to the Cruze - the steering wheel and instrument panel, climate control unit, music, and so on. Comfortable front seats are heated, so long journeys are not an issue. You can adjust both the depth and height under the steering column that allows the driver to build a place for themselves. The second row can comfortably accommodate even taller passengers and many of them. You’ll also find lots of clever storage spaces as well as air-conditioning for rear passengers.

Orlando Exterior

The Chevy Orlando has a distinct, bold design which makes it stand out against other MPVs. MPVs are not renowned for being eye-pleasing or striking, but that’s not the case with Orlando. At the front, you can spot the Chevrolet labeled, large grille; its label is large yet harmoniously fits into the design of the headlights. The front bumper is huge, has a specific section for the air intakes, fog lights, and even the so-called aerodynamic lip. The windows are high and are relatively small in size. This design approach may not generally work in utility vehicles, but, in Orlando, it works and adds to its beauty. There are colossal body protectors on the Orlando to prevent damage when the MPV is driven on rough terrains. Behind, there are no complaints; the rear features a vertical roof rack, beautiful bumper, functional rectangular tailgate, and rectangular parking lights. The Orlando is available in a range of beautiful colours from ‘Smokey Eye Grey’ to ‘Velvet Red’.

Chevrolet Orlando Ride & Handling

Being a versatile MPV, the Orlando still handles and feels like no other vehicle in the segment. It hugs the road and remains footed with confidence around bends and curves; on open roads, it instinctively settles in for a smooth and enjoyable ride in all conditions. Power-assisted rack and pinion steering help to manoeuvre the vehicle. Road bumps and potholes are handled by an efficient suspension setup consisting of a MacPherson strut at the front and a Compound Crank at the rear.

Orlando Engine & Fuel Consumption

Hauling the Orlando 1.4 Turbo LS is a 1,362cc, 4-cylinder, inline, DOHC Turbo engine that churns out 138 hp max power between 4,900 and 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 200 Nm between 1,850 and 4,900 rpm. This power is transmitted to the wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission setup. Chevrolet claims that the Orlando can reach a top speed of 191 kmph and accelerates to 100 kmph from still in 11.2 seconds. The combined fuel consumption is 7.1 litres per 100 km, and CO2 emission is 165 gm per km.

Chevrolet Orlando Braking & Safety

Braking is done by ventilated discs at the front and standard discs at the rear along with ABS. In terms of safety, Orlando uses the latest airbag technology and has incorporated a dual ISOFIX system on all models to use along with ISOFIX child seats. It features a rigid, reinforced safety cage that includes a long cradle, high energy absorbing system to decrease the effect of any impact and ensure occupants’ safety. Other safety features include Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, child safety locks, EBD, seat belt warning, crash sensor, day and night rearview mirror, engine check warning, front impact beams, side-impact beams, and door ajar warning.

Orlando Verdict

The Chevrolet Orlando 1.4 Turbo LS is a shining star in its category. It’s not just another ordinary MPV; you get the luxury sedan feel. The family car looks stunning from the outside and comfortable, spacious inside. The features and quality of components used, make it a high-class vehicle. Overall, a perfect family vehicle; it accommodates seven people comfortably and has exceptional cargo space for boarding goods.
