Wuling Motors’s compact EVs set for assembly; sales to start next year

Following the local debut of its Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, Wuling Motors Indonesia is all set to introduce the two electric minicars based on it in Indonesia next year. The move will mark the first-ever overseas forum for the Sino-US joint venture's EV models.

The latest EVs (Wuling Hongguang Mini EV and Baojun KiWi EV) which were showcased by the brand will be assembled at the company’s plant positioned in Cikarang, West Java.

Coming to the upcoming vehicles, both EVs are relatively small in their appeal. The Hongguang Mini EV stands at 2,917 mm in length, while the KiWi EV stands at 2,894 mm long. To add to its offerings, the brand employs the GSEV’s dense dimensions, which builds the cars based on ease of place and their daily use appropriateness.

Talking of the specs, the Hongguang Mini EV is powered by a 27 hp/ 85 Nm electric motor, lined with either a 9.3 kWh (120 km range) or 13.9 kWh (170 km range) lithium-ion battery, put up a top speed of 100 kmph for the city. While the four-seat KiWi EV  receives a rear-mounted electric motor churning out 54 horsepower and 150 Nm of peak torque.

Lastly, despite its compact size, the company states that the GSEV atonement won’t fall short of onboard tech. Affirming the same, it showcases the tech list featured onboard, including Internet of Vehicle (IoV), voice command support for the multimedia system, and automatic parking.

In contrast, the battery-related tech features an IP68 waterproof rating and a Smart Battery Management System.
