The flagship MPV from Volkswagen, the Volkswagen Sharan, is currently in its last leg of existence in this facelifted avatar of its second-generation version. The Volkswagen Sharan, which looks like a bigger version of the Volkswagen Touran, offers a proper seven-seating layout and is available here in Singapore in a single fully loaded variant with eight color options, namely Atlantic Blue, Beach Grey, Indium Grey, Petroleum Blue, Reflex Silver, Black Oak Brown, Deep Black and Pure White.
The overall interior cabin of the Volkswagen Sharan lacks the zing and freshness the other new-generation Volkswagen vehicles are getting with sharp and glitzy looking panels. Instead, the Volkswagen Sharan has an old-school cabin, which might look functional for an MPV of this size, but might not appeal to the hearts at first with their drab design.
The only fresh and modern looking bit in this cabin of the Volkswagen Sharan happens to be the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, which with its flat bottom design looks new-age.
Apart from that, right from the boring looking instrument console with very simple looking fonts to the wide looking center console with a dated small touchscreen infotainment system and dials for climate control look a bit archaic for today’s times.
The infotainment system is flanked with vertical AC vents on the upper center console, while the lower one houses the controls for climate control and transmission lever, with a split design for the dashboard making the cabin look wide.
The Volkswagen Sharan has ample amount of space for seven passengers with enough room for even the third row, but the cabin doesn’t impress much with it only getting the essential features and not more modern ones.
Despite its age, the Volkswagen Sharan manages to possess a timeless appeal with the smart design it offers. The boxy stance of the Volkswagen Sharan has been tried to look less boring some a sort of sharpness to the design. However, when you compare it to the rest of the Volkswagen models as well as other rival MPVs on sale, the Volkswagen Sharan lacks visual drama, which does reduce its desirability a bit.
At the front, the Volkswagen Sharan wears a previous generation Golf-inspired front fascia, with a sleek trapezoidal grille running in between the sweptback angular headlamps, and has two sleek chrome linings across its width. The headlamps do sport bi-xenon bulbs with decent looking daytime running LEDs below them.
The side profile of the Volkswagen Sharan tries to break the monotony associated with large MPV, of being boring looking vehicles. The angular design for the front bonnet and slightly flared rounded wheel arches do try to infuse some amount of freshness to the side look of the Sharan. What adds few more attention here are the large roof rails, chrome surrounds for the entire window frame and multi-spoke alloy wheels.
The rear profile of the Volkswagen Sharan makes the most dated angle to look from for this large MPV. The large and almost vertical rear windshield and large split tail lamps with tapered edges make the rear look bulbous.
For a large MPV which is aimed at providing a comfortable drive experience for all the three rows of seats, the Volkswagen Sharan impresses with its softly tuned suspension setup. However, despite it being a premium flagship MPV, it doesn’t get multiple drive modes.
Powering the Volkswagen Sharan is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard. The engine does pump out a maximum power output of 220 PS, while the peak torque has been capped at 350 Nm.
The Volkswagen Sharan is equipped with decent levels of kit when it comes to safety, with this large van getting front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability programme with anti-slip regulator, rain-sensing wipers, park assist, park distance control for front and rear, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC), Advanced Electronic Differential Lock (XDS) and tire pressure monitoring system.
The Volkswagen Sharan is purely for those who are looking for a well-built family vehicle with the sole purpose of transportation from one place to another with utmost comfort with not much focus on the way it looks. The MPV has started to show its age in and out, with a lack of features increasing that feel even more.
I have recently got a chance to get acquainted with this remarkable MPV edition from the house of Volkswagen. The car is available with the option of diesel or patrol power to select from. Certain practical tricks that the car has to offer seriously fascinated me. Say for instance its sliding rear door. It gets so easy to open this
The Volkswagen Sharan has been designed to take long-distance trips to another level. The performance of the engine is amazing and the same goes for the incredible driving experience. It features plushy interiors that definitely improve the overall feel. It has also been equipped with a high-performing infotainment system. The air conditioning of this excellent car is also quite impressive.
This plain Jane edition from Volkswagen is ideal for big families. This seven-seater proved to be ideal for my extended family these days. The design can be pretty ordinary but there is a touch of fashion even in that simplicity I believe. The driving quality of the car is also pretty intriguing. The outward visibility while driving the car is
Given the name and the fame that the automaker has made around its cars, Volkswagen was my first choice for a Multi Utility Vehicle. However, since I was not very sure whether the automaker was making such vehicles, I decided to visit my nearest VW dealership. Thankfully, I came across the Sharan, probably the best MUV that money can buy.
The Volkswagen Sharan is an excellent vehicle that features an outstanding performance with great looks. I had my eye on this car for quite some time, and I finally purchased it a couple of months back. I have not had much to do in these few days, so I covered about 1500 kms on my Volkswagen Sharan, including two long
The Volkswagen Sharan is a good car no doubt, I had my eyes on this model for some time and I finally got it. The cabin space of this car makes for a very comfortable seating arrangement with ample leg space. The interiors are also cozy and comfortable and there are not many complaints I have with that. The only
I have been looking for a compact vehicle for the last few months when I came across the Volkswagen Sharan. Its raving reviews led me to buy this MPV and I must say I am very happy with the service it provides. The sizing of the car is just right for my family of 5 and is extremely comfortable to
I am not the kind of car buyer who looks more for a glamorous design than for comfort. Hence, when I found Sharan, I was more than just satisfied. Its big and spacious seating capacity perfectly meets my family's needs, which has always been my priority. Its driver seat ergonomics and electric sliding doors that can be operated with the
My family is big and that’s why I was looking for a car with enough space to fit all of them. That’s why I chose the Sharan model which has seven seats with an electric sliding door which can also be operated with a power button in the keys. The interior is equipped with a six-way controlled driver seat ergonomics,
The Volkswagen Sharan is my third car. I own a hatchback and a sedan already and wanted something that could fit my family of 6 comfortably. I did consider a lot of options but ended up buying the Volkswagen Sharan. I am just drawn to the classy design of the car and can keep driving it all day. Plus, since
