The Kia Niro is one of the most widely accepted crossovers all over the world and in markets that are highly fascinated by conventional SUVs. The Kia Niro is being offered in Singapore in two different variants – EX and SX – both of which are available in colour options like Snow White, Silky Silver, Steel Grey, Platinum Graphite, Aurora Black, Horizon Blue, Gravity Blue, Deep Cerulean Blue, Orange Delight, and Runway Red.
Continuing the subtlety of the exterior design, the Kia Niro has got a sober and sophisticated cabin on the inside. The layout is pretty simple here, and with high-quality materials and good fit and finish levels, it feels sturdy and premium too.
Both the three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel as well as three-part fully digital instrument console make up for a cool looking driver’s cockpit and gives a futuristic appeal to the cabin. The curved design for the dashboard makes the cabin look wide, with a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system dominating the view here. The central layer of the dashboard gets a nice piano black finish, below which runs a sharp streak of silver finish, which divides the dashboard into two layers.
The centre console also comes with super sleek AC vents and minimalist controls and buttons for the climate control on board. Here, the overall layout looks very European and speaks quality to the core.
The Kia Niro might not be suitable to the taste of those who prefer conventional SUVs, for the sleek and aerodynamic looks coupled with slightly high stance makes it a typical crossover. However, this very sleek design makes it look distinctive amidst the sea of SUVs.
The front profile of the Kia Niro mainly has the Tiger-nose grille as its main highlight, which here is stretched horizontally and gets sporty looking zig-zag grille inserts. The triangular headlights are positioned slightly upwards of the corners of the front grille and come integrated with projector bulbs as well as daytime running lamps made up of LEDs. The front bumper looks aggressive thanks to the arrow-shaped fog lamps encased in large housings, along with slim body cladding and silver skid plates at the bottom.
Thanks to the sloping bonnet, the Kia Niro gets the traditional crossover layout, with a low roofline and high ground clearance getting full assistance of roof rails and body cladding over wheel arches and down the door panels, adding to the ruggedness. Kia has fitted the Niro with snazzy looking machined alloy wheels to make the otherwise simple looking side profile a bit more stylish.
It is at the back where Kia has somewhat lost the track. The boot design is too plain, and save for the large tail lamps with LED inserts, there is nothing much to talk about the visual appeal here.
The Kia Niro is a crossover and thus manages to provide the on-road mannerisms and driving dynamics of a sedan and the versatility of an SUV. While it is not an out and out off-road vehicle by any means, the Niro feels sturdy and rock-solid on rough terrains. However, it would have been appreciated if the ground clearance was a bit more, for the 160mm of ground clearance feels a bit less for it.
The Kia Niro has a very potent 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol hybrid motor, which produces a combined power output of a healthy 130 PS, while the peak torque output is rated at 170 Nm. The engine here is married to a super-slick 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Complementing the rich list of comfort features, the list of safety equipment in the Kia Niro is also quite healthy, with prominent inclusions like seven airbags, ABS with EBD, lane-keeping assist, vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, brake assist, hill start assist, emergency stop signal, rear parking sensors with camera, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot detection.
The Kia Niro has a certain subtlety to it – be its styling in and out or the performance on the tarmac. The crossover feels like a very well engineered vehicle which shows its versatility as and when demanded from it.
There is a reason I call the Kia Niro an urban crossover. I looked around through a lot of options and I barely found a car as stylish as the Niro. Result? I bought it for myself. The first thing is, I love the design language of Kia, especially the front part. The Niro even packs metallic colours, which look
We all know how Singapore traffic is, and for such traffic conditions, a Hybrid car can be a great choice. That's what made me buy the KIA Niro Hybrid. And ever since I bought the Niro, it has simply outperformed my expectations. While I was confused between the Citroen C4 Picasso and the Niro, this hybrid crossover is compact, functional,
