Maserati plans to electrify the whole lineup by 2025

In the era where every car maker is shifting to EV, Maserati is not the first automaker to embrace this evolution. The Italian luxury vehicle manufacturer has plans to electrify its entire lineup over the next five years. However, there’s no official statement released by the brand.

According to Reuters, David Grasso, the chief operating officer has shared the enthusiastic new strategy at the time of an online fashion event that was arranged by the Milano Finanza (an Italian newspaper). He revealed that Maserati’s future Grecale SUV will be launched with a battery-powered mill. He further added, “The new Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models will be electrified, too, [and> all our line-up will be electrified in the next five years.”

Maserati Ghibli front

The carmaker has marked the beginning of the brand’s electrified future by launching the Ghibli Hybrid four months back, which will soon be joined by the Grecale. The plans to electrify the lineup is not a big surprise because, in late 2019,  Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group (parent company) and Maserati announced to invest around €5 billion into electric propulsion systems, autonomous driving technologies, and hybrid technologies.

Maserati MC20 front

It seems that their plan is in full swing as they have announced that both the MC20 supercar and GranTurismo will be available in EV form. The above-mentioned zero-emission models are expected to hit the market in 2022 and 2021, respectively. Moving to the Grecale SUV, we can expect an electrified version by the year 2022. Moreover, a hybrid Quattroporte saloon is anticipated to launch in 2023.

Maserati Grecale side

Earlier, the brand has also announced its plans to launch around 13 electrified vehicles by the year 2024. The outbreak of COVID-19 might act as a hurdle and slow up the launches.

Maserati is not the only luxury brand to electrify the lineup as Bentley has also announced to release new EVs by 2030. Similarly, BMW has declared to electrify the 5 series and also plans to launch 25 EVs over the upcoming years.
