Genesis unveiled its first-ever electrified car at the Auto Shanghai 2021

Hyundai’s premium luxury brand, Genesis is the latest addition to the world of EV automakers. The automaker unveiled its Electrified G80, making it the first battery-powered model, introduced at Shanghai’s international auto show in China.

While the parent company of Genesis brand has already been a major contributor in the EV field with offerings like its Kona and Ioniq, the G80 is the first premium electric car by the brand. Genesis’s firs-ever EV continues to ride on the ICE-powered architecture of its combustion-powered mill.

Talking of the design feature of the car, it’s obvious that the automaker has retained the looks of the standard G80. the only difference in design being that the grille area of the car now opens up a panel to allow users to plug in the car for charging.

Coming to the mill of the car, the internal combustion engine of the car is now replaced by a twin set of electric motors that develop combined power outputs of 368hp of power and up to 700Nm of torque. While the car is a four-wheel drive, claims have been made around the midsize sedan turning to a single motor (as a two-wheel drive) for improved efficiency. Further, in its Sport mode, the electrified G80 can give out a power output of 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds.

Inside, the G80 EV is paired with some new features, providing the car with functionalities of active noise control to counter road noise, besides electronically-controlled suspension that allows the users with a preview of the road.

Interestingly, the USP of the car also gives the Electrified G80 materials that are either natural or recycled. The list of such recycled products includes recycled wood in the trim, natural leather dyes, and recycled PET fabrics.

Lastly, The car is said to be offered alongside the petrol-powered sedan (much like the Nexon EV and the regular Nexon SUV). It’s going to go on sale in Canada and the U.S. as well.
