Volkswagen Tiguan

The interior cabin of the Volkswagen Tiguan ranks quite high in the levels of finesse it offers, with the all-black cabin getting top-quality soft-touch plastics and leather upholstery to lend that premium appeal to the SUV. 

The driver’s cockpit has got a pleasant appeal attached to it, which is a combination of the three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with a flat-bottom design piano black inserts as well as a 12.3-inch full TFT instrument console, which looks lively with its coloured displays and elegant fonts. The centre console has been designed in such a way that it looks wide, thanks to the asymmetric yet in-line sleek AC vents and the large 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system positioned below it in a trapezoidal housing. 

For its most affordable SUV, Volkswagen has left no stone unturned to equip the cabin of the Tiguan richly, with feel-good bits like Vienna leather upholstery, powered front seats with memory function, push-button start with keyless entry, electric tailgate, rear AC vents, eight-speaker music system, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof.

The Volkswagen Tiguan lacks the factors of intimidation and mighty stance of traditional SUV, but its road presence is strongly felt due to its crisp lines and sharp design cues, all of which combine to give the Tiguan a very sophisticated look.

At the front, the Volkswagen Tiguan looks broad and sharp, the width of which is characterised by the large trapezoidal grille, which has got three horizontal chrome slats throughout its width till the headlamps placed on either edges of the grille. The headlamps here have angular designs and come with full LED lighting theme by housing dual projectors and sleek daytime running LEDs.

The front bumper of the Volkswagen Tiguan looks quite aggressive as compared to the rest of the design with a large trapezoidal central air dam and C-shaped housing for the fog lamps, the latter of which get piano black finish in the R-Line trim with a few more detailing in its design.

The Volkswagen Tiguan has a very upright and angular stance when viewed from the side, where the higher ground clearance and crisp lines make its presence feel even stronger. The SUV wears very thing cladding over the rounded wheel arches, with its width increasing even more while running through the bottom of the doors.  Adding a flavour of sportiness to the side profile are the roof rails and door-mounted rearview mirrors. 

The Volkswagen Tiguan has been given a neat and crisp layout at the rear as well, with the wide and angular L-shaped LED tail lamps giving it a nice sophisticated appeal, along with slightly tapered windscreen and lowered license plate housing, as seen in other bigger VWs.

The Volkswagen Tiguan follows its family lineage of offering a good combination of agile driving dynamics with planted ride quality, making it pleasant for both driver as well as other passengers on board. While it doesn’t feel as rugged and go-anywhere as other traditional body-on-frame SUVs, with the raised ride height and multiple drive modes on offer, it takes on mild- off-road duties quite decently.

The Volkswagen Tiguan has been bestowed with the German car maker’s tried and tested 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which has been doing duty in other volume bringers for Volkswagen like Golf and Touran. With a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as the only gearbox option, this engine belts out 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque.

The Volkswagen Tiguan boasts of a long list of safety features, including front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, driver alert system, cruise control, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) including Anti-Slip Regulator (ASR), traction control, Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR), hill hold control, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC), multi-collision brake system and tire pressure monitoring system.

With its car-like mannerisms in the way it drives and makes it inner occupants, the Volkswagen Tiguan has got all the traits sorted to make it a premium urban-oriented SUV.
