Track-focused Bugatti Bolide headed to production

The track-oriented Bugatti Bolide is finally headed to production. The automaker has recently confirmed the news of production of its track-ready Bolide at a motorsports gathering in California, named “The Quail.”

Further, the automaker confirmed that its upcoming Bolide is limited to 40 units, each with an estimated value of about $4.7 million (SGD 8.5 Million based on current exchange rates).

While talking about the upcoming offering, Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann stated, “The Bolide generated a great deal of enthusiasm and intrigue last year. Following its presentation, a significant number of enthusiasts and collectors asked us to develop the experimental Bolide as a production vehicle. I was absolutely amazed by the reactions and feedback from customers from all over the world.”

Now, coming to the concept car which was unveiled last fall, the Bolide is going to be a track-oriented car. While the car isn’t based on any existing Bugatti, the car is powered by an 8.0L quad-turbocharged W-16, paired with an all-wheel-drive system.

The engine produces 1,824 hp of power, besides churning out a peak torque of up to 1006 Nm when powered by 110-octane racing fuel. In comparison to the ongoing offerings of the Bugatti, the Bolide engine churns out at higher speeds. The transmission option of the car is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

One of the major USPs of the car is that Bugatti has emphasized weight reduction while making it. The Bolide concept was said to carry a 2,733 pounds curb weight, making it lighter than the Toyota GR86.

Talking of the design features of the car, Bugatti design boss Achim Anscheidt exclaimed, “For me, being able to turn the radical thought experiment of the Bolide into reality as a production vehicle is a dream come true as it is by far the most challenging project of my 17-year Bugatti career.”

Lastly, deliveries for the Bugatti Bolide are expected to begin in 2024.
