Lotus secures government funding for its upcoming EV platform

The British car manufacturer, Lotus, has been successful in securing funds for its upcoming EV platform, as per reports by Autocar. Funded by the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the government-backed Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) is a result of Lotus’s powerful demonstration in the Advanced Route to Market Demonstrator competition. 

The funding has been granted to help Lotus in their next venture where it is leading an engineering partnership. The project will be developed with lightweight engineering specialist Sarginsons Industries along with a team of academics from Brunel University London. The centre for the same is currently being set up at the advanced technology centre in Warwickshire. 

Lotus upcoming EV

Talking about their upcoming EV project, Matt Windle, executive director of engineering, Lotus, said that this is great news for the industry and its transition to electrification. As a collaboration between Lotus, Sarginsons Industries, and Brunel University London, there is a wealth of talent involved, and the company is excited to have already begun the project work.

Adding further on their latest innovations, he added, “Following the launch of the Lotus Evija, our all-electric 2,000 PS hypercar, this project is a key building block in our vision to deliver a full range of electrified Lotus performance cars ‘For The Drivers’. Funding of this nature is critical to stimulate the automotive industry and supply chain as both continue to adjust to a rapidly changing landscape.”

Coming to the product that secured victory for the manufacturer, Lotus won with its Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture (LEVA). As per the automaker, its upcoming project will be the key to new age EV driving and will be “a showcase for pioneering new BEV chassis and powertrain concepts”.

Lastly, Lotus is also gearing up to introduce the world to its all-new model in 12 years, early next year. The upcoming vehicle will be Lotus’s new offering after the arrival of the Evora. Interestingly, as per news around the vehicle, it will be a product of innovation with its rivet-bonded platform and is said to come with a hybrid-electric petrol V6 powertrain.
