Volvo V60

The overall cabin layout of the Volvo V60 has been completely lifted off from the Volvo S60 sedan on which it is based. The lively looking dual-tone black and ivory white upholstery look and feel rich, with the subtle use of piano black and dark wood enhancing the overall rich experience.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with a rounded square centre boss and the full TFT instrument console is a combination that is getting common in all the Volvo offerings. Another element that is becoming a common norm in all the Volvo cars is the large portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system which houses controls for smartphone connectivity options, four-zone automatic climate control, and various other functions.

The cabin of the Volvo V60 feels extremely spacious, and this feeling only doubles up by the large window surrounds and panoramic sunroof above. The dashboard also features large vertical AC vents on the sides of the infotainment system and wider AC vents on the sides, with a fine silver horizontal garnish flowing below them across the dashboard.

Like its elder brother, the V90, the Volvo V60 matches the two basic and opposite aspects of practicality and sophistication. Station wagons are usually expected to be boxy and boring, however, that’s not the case with the Volvo V60.

The front fascia of the Volvo V60 has the same large rounded rectangular front grille with vertical slats within it and lower tapered edges as seen in all the other modern Volvos. The sleek headlamps are all LEDs and do house the now-familiar Thor’s hammer-shaped daytime running LEDs. The fog lamp housings are very pronounced here, shaped in a trapezoidal manner with chrome garnish at lower edges. The wide trapezoidal air dam on the front bumper too lends a sporty character to the front profile of the car.

The side profile of the Volvo V60 seeks some inspiration from the V90, and that can be seen in the design of the large window panels and door-mounted rearview mirrors as well as a stretched profile with a sleek character line flowing sideways. The low slung stance coupled with large machined alloy wheels makes the Volvo V60 look elegant yet sporty.

The rear profile of the Volvo V60 looks as if it is completely lifted off from the V90, with the raked windscreen with spoiler above, Christmas tree-shaped tail lamps with LED inserts, large ovular exhaust ports on the sides of the rear bumper and large hexagonal housing in the middle of the boot for the license plate.

The Volvo V60 shares its underpinnings with the S60 sedan, and the prowess with which it handles bad roads and feels great to drive is also shared with its sedan sibling. The ride quality is comfortable, an experience which only gets better with the extremely supportive seats and the airy cabin courtesy the large window panels.

The Volvo V60 can be had in one of the two petrol automatic powertrain options, both of which do get a common 8-speed automatic gearbox. The less powerful T4 petrol engine makes 192 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque, while the more powerful T5 petrol engine produces 253 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, with the latter getting all-wheel drive as standard.

The Volvo V60 gets an extensive list of safety features like in every other Volvo car, which includes front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, distance alert, oncoming lane mitigation, city safety with steering support, lane-keeping aid, run-off road mitigation, driver alert control, road sign information, hill start assist, a blind-spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alert, rear collision warning, tire pressure monitoring system and electric parking brake.

The Volvo V60 might be a comparably smaller station wagon from the V90, but it shows no dearth in luxury, space, and comfort. The long extensive list of safety and comfort features, along with the immensely spacious and luxurious interior cabin, are the true fortes of the Volvo V60.
