Nissan NV200

Just like the overall exterior design of the Nissan NV200, the interior cabin of the vehicle too looks very basic and outdated. However, thanks to clever space management and the presence of a sufficient number of cubbyholes and small pockets, the cabin shows its practical nature pretty effectively.

The dashboard has a wide layout with a simple non-adjustable V-themed multi-functional three-poke steering wheel and basic looking instrument console teaming up to form the driver’s cockpit. The wide center console looks quite boxy, with the housing consisting of rectangular vertical AC vents and a small infotainment system in between them with a 5-inch display screen for it.

The waterfall-theme for the lower center console manages to free up some space for increasing knee room, and houses the transmission lever. The loading bay of the Nissan NV200 impresses with the amount of room and space it has on offer for carrying loads of luggage behind the driver’s cockpit.

The Nissan NV200 is not a beautiful looking vehicle at the very first place, for the boxy design of the vehicle, coupled to the oddball looking design cues at the front, is something which is not too eye-pleasing. However, this very design of the Nissan NV200 makes it a supremely practical vehicle (more on that later).

At the front, the Nissan NV200 tries to look distinctive with its short sloping front bonnet, which ends up in a small and sleek grille. The grille, which is laid out in a horizontal theme, gets three black horizontal slats and a chrome finish on its lowest layer. The curvy headlamp placed adjacent to the grille look pretty basic too with its all halogen setup. The front bumper at the bottom, with its large design, makes the front end of the Nissan NV200 look quite beefy.

The side profile of the Nissan NV200 too looks quite unique, thanks to the large front window panels, the window lines of which flow all the way to the edges of the front headlamps. Below the prominent looking round wheel arches are the rather small wheels which do get basic looking wheel caps. The sliding door theme as well as rectangular covered panels in place of the side windows makes it look very van-like.

At the back, the Nissan NV200 has a very boxy looking profile, with a large rectangular shield in place of windscreen further making it look even more plain-jane. There are small vertically laid tail lamps on the outer edges, which are positioned slightly lower and have curved design towards their sides. Due to the absence of a proper windscreen at the back, Nissan has mounted a forward-facing mirror on the back of the roofline for easing up the task of reversing the vehicle.

The Nissan NV200 is not an agile handler and a driver’s delight, and that is pretty evident from its boxy shape and very basic suspension setup of independent strut suspension at the front and leaf rigid suspension at the back. However, this very sturdy suspension aids in making the Nissan NV200 a very effective load carrier, by sustaining a good amount of load on the go.

The standard engine option for the Nissan NV200 is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is being offered here in Singapore with both 5-speed manual gearbox and 4-speed automatic transmission options. The engine, here in the Nissan NV200, is tuned to produce a maximum power output of 109 PS and a peak torque output of 152 Nm.

The Nissan NV200, being a very basic commercial vehicle, gets only the bare basics of safety, including just dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.

The Nissan NV200 is not a new-age vehicle to begin with, with the dated and oddball design as well as pretty basic equipment list making it seems dated. However, the sole purpose for which the Nissan NV200 has been engineered, and that is being a load hauler from point A to point B, is executed pretty effectively, thanks to its rugged mechanicals and loads of cargo space on offer.
