The Jeep Wrangler has already cemented its position as an iconic off-roader, and to extend its portfolio in the true-blue off-roader segment, Jeep has brought the pickup version of the same – the all the new Jeep Gladiator. The purposeful looking Jeep Gladiator is being offered in two variants, namely Rubicon and Sport, with the color options of Billet Silver, Punk N, Hydro Blue, Bright White, Granite Crystal, Fire Cracker, Sting Grey, Pitch Black, Gobi and Gator.
The overall cabin of the Jeep Gladiator is exactly the same as that of the Wrangler, with a good mix of retro and modern design cues mimicking the mixed appeal of the exterior design. The Jeep Gladiator gets an all-black cabin, which does match with colour-coded bits, adding a pinch of youthfulness to the cabin.
The multi-functional steering wheel, as well as AC vents on the corners and center portion of the dashboard, does follow a round theme, which is well carried out for the dials in the instrument console as well. The dashboard of the Gladiator has a flat horizontal theme, which is finished entirely in the exterior paint shade of the vehicle.
A large squared touchscreen infotainment system sits in the middle of the dashboard, which gets surrounded by black plastic surrounds. A comprehensive panel of buttons for climate control and various off-road functions grace the lower part of the center console.
Taking some heavy inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep Gladiator has the same design as that of the former till the B-pillar, post which it has a pickup design, all of which combine to look sporty and purposeful. The neo-retro design, along with new-age features and lights, gives the Gladiator a very likeable identity.
Sharing its front profile with the Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep Gladiator comes with a familiar front face comprising of the traditional seven slat grille as well as round LED headlamps, the latter of which are placed at the upper corners of the grille. Even the positioning of the daytime running LEDs on the front edges of the fenders on the sides has been retained from the Wrangler. The front bumper here gets an all-black treatment and incorporates small fog lamps.
As said above, the Jeep Gladiator shares its design with the Wrangler till the C-pillar, with squared window panels and vertical edges making it look pretty old school and cool. Post the C-pillar, the Jeep Gladiator gets a horizontal deck, with the vehicle getting muscular-looking tires and alloy wheels.
Instead of a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, the Jeep Gladiator gets a simple design for the deck lid cover. A set of boxy looking tail lamps are placed on the outer corners of the deck lid in a vertical manner, and to instil some freshness, the tail lamps do get nice LED inserts.
Having a very capable and rugged suspension setup under its tough-looking skin, the Jeep Gladiator has got the right pedigree to match its overall tough visual appeal. The overall mechanical setup of the Jeep Gladiator comprises of by heavy-duty shock absorbers, selec-trac full-time four-wheel-drive system, limited-slip differential and selec-speed control wide front axle.
In the Singapore market, the Jeep Gladiator is available with only one 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine under its well-contoured bonnet. Coupled to a modern 8-speed automatic transmission, this engine pumps out a maximum power output of 287 PS, whereas the peak torque output tips at 352 Nm.
The range of safety features available in the Jeep Gladiator includes front, side and curtain airbags, reverse parking sensors with camera, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, automatic headlamps, electronic stability control traction control and tire pressure monitoring system.
Having all the positive attributes of the Jeep Wrangler on which it is based, the Jeep Gladiator gets additional versatility over the former with the more capacious deck at the back. Adding to it, the punchy petrol engine, very capable suspension setup and tough macho stance of the Jeep Gladiator make it a go-anywhere vehicle of all sorts.
I have newly bought a Jeep Gladiator and have been using it for a few months and I find this to be a tough car for all kinds of roads. This is suitable for having a good adventurous trip and the endurance is a whole new level. The power of this car is 285hp from a 3.5-liter engine. It comes
I always wanted the raw and butch appeal of the Jeep Wrangler in a pickup form, for the added versatility and go-anywhere ability the pickups have over the regular SUVs. The Jeep Gladiator, in that sense, is what I was all looking for. I personally liked the fact that apart from the added deck lid, Jeep hasn’t played much with
